John “Comix” Barrella
Instructor
Mr. John is a Street Dance Educator, Choreographer, Performer, and Consultant whose work in film & dance is based around street dance culture. His work utilizes a range of the arts with techniques largely based within locking, popping, b-boy, and hip hop. Mr. John has been a featured dancer in multiple music videos, a Tedx: Chaos presentation, halftime shows for the NY Knicks, and NYCBreakers’ Battle of the Boroughs reunion, and his choreography has been presented internationally. Mr. John has trained in modern, ballet, human anatomy, improvisational techniques, childhood education, choreography composition, and musical theatre, in addition to his hip hop training with various hip hop artists, including the WildStyle Dance Company, Tom Mckie, Spex, Brian Green, Bev Brown, Jazzy J, Sekou, Pavan Thimmiah and more. Mr. John is owner/director of dance company “The Redef Movement”, and an adjunct professor for hip hop at Rider University. In recent years, Mr. John has developed a curriculum and program that trains teachers in hip hop terminology and technique called “Essentials for Dance Education”, which has been implemented in classrooms around the world.
